With two extra days added to the traditional seven-day holiday for Chinese New Year, or Spring Festival, the festive economy boomed with new growth points emerging from shifting lifestyles. During the festival, the country saw almost 600 million tourist visits, an increase of about 95 million compared with last year's eight-day holiday. Driven by popular IP productions, such as action game Black Myth: Wukong, tourist numbers surged in ancient cities and towns rich in traditional cultural heritage. To make extra profits, many restaurants and tourist attractions extended opening hours. In addition, big cities are no longer deserted during the festival, as more young singles who settle there prefer to stay and work for triple holiday pay. Their parents, meanwhile, visit them instead for family reunions. Experts believe that younger generations are redefining how Spring Festival is celebrated.
