Several young couriers accused of transferring fraud profits, drug smuggling and human trafficking have faced custodial sentences and financial penalties. With the temptation to make easy, quick money, these young people are susceptible despite understanding the tasks may not be legitime. Spoiled, under-educated and idle, they are the lowest links in criminal chains. Lacking legal awareness, they think they will escape punishment so long as they claim ignorance of what they had delivered. However, in line with national laws, anyone who engages in illegal behavior, acts as an intermediary or recruits people into the criminal chain will be punished. The participation of young couriers complicates law enforcement's efforts to track down top-tier criminals. Experts suggest that at-risk young people should be provided with family support, social care and basic legal education programs.
