On April 29, China's Ministry of Natural Resources released an updated inventory of the country's mineral resources, showing that China ranks the world's first in the reserves of 14 minerals and the output of 17 minerals.

The 14 top-reserve minerals include rare earths, tungsten, tin, molybdenum, antimony, gallium, germanium, indium, fluorite and graphite, and the 17 top-output ones include coal, vanadium, titanium, zinc, rare earths, gold and tellurium.

China also leads the world in mineral production, smelting and processing scale. In 2025, the output value of its mining industry reached 32.7 trillion yuan (US$4.8t), accounting for over 23 percent of GDP.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, China's Strategic Action for Prospecting Breakthroughs in Mineral Resources launched in 2021 has played a significant role in strengthening China's capacity for guaranteeing independent resources and has supported the construction of 198 energy and resource centers.

The strategic action also helped China discover 225 new medium and large oil and gas fields during the 14th Five-year Plan (2021-2025). In 2025, China's crude oil output hit 216 million metric tons, a record high, and output of natural gas exceeded 260 billion cubic meters, an annual output increase of over 10 billion cubic meters for nine consecutive years.
