China has preserved a certain number of folk songs and melodies played on ancient musical instruments, which might otherwise vanish as their influence wanes. On the protection list are traditions such as the Shaanxi Province guqin, a stringed musical instrument crafted by exquisite techniques unique to that area, and Guangdong Province's Hakka mountain songs. Local governments are now paying attention to these endangered musical legacies, and have institutionalized efforts to revitalize them in modern society. While exploring their profound historic value, people are surprised to find these age-old arts can be part of daily life. For instance, in an ethnic Dong village in Guizhou Province, a young couple who had filed for divorce eventually reconciled, moved by original folk songs composed by a judicial mediator. However, experts suggest that the preservation efforts strike a balance between upholding tradition and integrating modern elements, so as to safeguard these legacies' authenticity.
