While the number of young Chinese singles is increasing, they no longer meet prospective partners through their parents' matchmaking efforts in public parks. Instead they are using apps, the Workers’ Daily reports.
An online survey conducted by consultancy iResearch suggests there are more than 200 million single adults in China, and 140 million unmarried people. While being single may be fashionable, a survey apparently found more than nine in 10 interviewees were not happy being alone.
The 2017 app industry trend report found unlike their less trusting older compatriots, young netizens are likely to communicate with strangers, and readily make friends on apps and online games, rather than through traditional Chinese matchmaking methods. In 2016, China's online matchmaking sector made 3.44 billion yuan in profit – around half a billion US dollars.
