Online Hits, Short Videos Dominate Attention Marketplace

Today’s hit songs and micro and short videos have transformed the entertainment industry with a multiplicity of choices, shortened production cycles and the desire for quick returns. Unlike traditional albums in which singers were the center of promotional efforts, today’s hit tunes are selected from among a surfeit of demos that prioritize online attractiveness over talent. In the later half of 2024, personal time spent on micro and short videos increased from 90 to 101 minutes on average a day. With increased influence and fiercer competition, producers are improving video quality to retain audiences. Young people are quitting steady jobs to join in. Experts suggest that because of the low entry threshold, people can produce their own videos.
