China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) in conjunction with 14 other government agencies released a national program on constructing a standard system for fighting climate change on May 30.
The system will help China better fulfill its carbon targets and tackle issues around climate change. The plan will be tailored for different regions and industries to provide key standards for solutions to climate change, and is expected to boost inter-agency cooperation and coordination to promote better standardization at various levels. The program is also intended to help China raise its international influence by participating in the design of international standards.
The program includes a framework for fighting climate change, covering fundamental abilities, easing climate change and adaptation. This details general terminologies and codes, calculation and monitoring of greenhouse gas emissions, targets for greenhouse gas reduction and utilization, appraisal of greenhouse emissions as well as norms and management of trade in carbon emissions.
Experts said that the program will be a proactive guideline for sectors to act ahead of risks.
