The world’s first floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel equipped with an onboard carbon capture and storage system, the Agogo FPSO, was officially delivered in Shanghai on March 3.

At 333 meters long and 60 meters wide, the Agogo FPSO has a production capacity of 120,000 barrels of crude oil a day, and by using cutting-edge carbon reduction technologies, can capture carbon emissions produced during voyages and oil production. It can also generate electricity through waste gas.

This equates to carbon emission reductions of 27 percent, about 230,000 tons each year, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

The vessel is the third FPSO project conducted by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, a Shanghai-based company engaged in shipbuilding and marine support services, and Yinson Holdings, a transportation and logistics company based in Malaysia which will deliver the vessel to Azule Energy, Angola’s biggest independent oil and gas supplier.
