A hot pot restaurant in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province faced customer ire for allowing people to stay overnight.

The diner took to social media after his 4:30 am visit to Haidilao, a 24-hour restaurant chain, where he found all its tables occupied by university students camped out for the night over the Labor Day holiday (April 29-May 3).

“Is Haidilao a restaurant or a hotel?” he posted along with photos of the students, many of which had luggage in tow.

Haidilao is known for its lenient all-night policy, especially among young people seeking to save on hotels. The branch explained the overcrowding was due to the holiday and a nearby pop concert that night. While some netizens applauded the restaurant’s generosity, others said it should cap the number of hot pot squatters so it does not impact other customers.
