Companies Post ‘Mystery Job’ Ads to Boost Applicants

Taking a cue from grab bags and blind box promotions from retailers, companies are posting “mystery jobs” on recruitment websites, media reported.

Taking a cue from grab bags and blind box promotions from retailers, companies are posting “mystery jobs” on recruitment websites, media reported. A job ad posted by a company in Shenzhen, for example, tells potential applicants that their HR department will place them in the most suitable position based on their resumes, adding that these “mystery jobs” are tailored for those who are unsure about which career path to take. An HR representative at another company said they have seen their applicant pool double since posting “mystery jobs” for 18 positions. Although many on social media found the idea fresh and creative, some lawyers commented the gimmick violates China’s Labor Law for not including the job description in the ad.
