The war in Ukraine came as a shock to the world after rounds of negotiations among Russia, Ukraine, the US and Europe failed. Many believe the conflict may reshape the world’s geopolitical landscape and the long-term deeper transformation has yet to come. The sanctions imposed by the West on Russia have made a big impact on the global economy which was already struggling to recover from the impact of Covid-19. The resettlement of millions of Ukrainian refugees is a test for the capability of humanitarian aid and regional stability. Peace talks have made little progress. The war is boosting the recognition of cultural and political identity among Ukrainians. China is calling for maximum restraint to prevent an enormous humanitarian crisis.
