China’s State Council Information Office published a white paper on the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region’s population development on September 26, which said the population of ethnic groups in Xinjiang has been growing since 1949 when the People’s Republic of China was founded.

According to the report, members of ethnic groups in Xinjiang totaled 14.93 million in 2020, 10.48 million more than that in 1953. The number of those receiving university education per 100,000 population increased from 10,613 in 2010 to 16,536 in 2020.

Annual disposable income of rural residents increased to 13,100 yuan (US$1,927), with 25 impoverished counties and 3,107 impoverished villages shaking off absolute poverty, covering 2,923,200 people.

“Due to the government’s policies and measures to keep Xinjiang stable, the population in Xinjiang, especially that of ethnic groups, will keep growing at a stable pace with the population scale expanding, the quality improving and the population movement staying active,” read the report.

The white paper condemns overseas anti-China forces for attempting to split China and mislead the world by faking and spreading negative rumors about Xinjiang.
