A livestreamer known for covering her face during broadcasts was recently blocked from Douyu, a popular Chinese live-streaming app, over accusations she had purposefully revealed her face on camera in a calculated bid to draw viewers. The woman, who broadcast as “Qiaobiluo Dianxia,” was a voice livestreamer and never revealed her identity. In her last show, her veil suddenly fell, revealing a face different from photos she had showed viewers in the past. The app later found she had planned the stunt. Feeling deceived, users called for Douyu to ban her from the platform. The app obliged. Following the incident some complained that livestreamers earn big salaries with nothing but a false pretty face, while people with real talent and skills struggle to make a living.
