Chinese President Xi Jinping said on May 15 at the opening ceremony of the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations in Beijing that various civilizations are not destined to clash as long as the beauty of different cultures is appreciated. As Asia’s first-ever grand gathering themed on exchanges and mutual understanding of different cultures, the week-long event featured several panel discussions, an Asian culture carnival, Asian food festival and Asian Civilization Week to present the diversity and charm of Asian civilizations. Amid growing global trade protectionism, the event aimed to uphold equality and abandon pride and prejudice to promote dialogue and harmonious coexistence among different civilizations. The inter-connection of policies, infrastructure, trade, finance and people will play a crucial role in constructing a community with a shared future for Asia and the world.
