North Korea launched a new intercontinental ballistic missile on November 29, triggering wide concern in the international community.

According to a statement from the North Korean government, the missile was launched from the outskirts of the capital Pyongyang and accurately hit the targeted international waters east of the Korean Peninsula. The statement said the missile was launched at the steepest angle and imposed no negative impact on any neighboring country.

In response, the South Korean military conducted a missile launch drill several minutes later and said they will closely watch the North’s moves around the clock.

António Guterres, General Secretary of the United Nations, condemned the missile test and held a meeting the same day to talk about countermeasures. US President Donald Trump also exchanged ideas with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe via telephone, saying that nuclear weapons will only make the North further isolated.

Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, expressed China’s concern and opposition to the North’s missile launch, and urged its neighbor to obey the relevant UN regulations and stop any moves that will further strain relations on the Korean Peninsula.
