The ear-piercing squeals of a pig echoed through a new scenic spot in Southwest China’s Chongqing after workers made it bungee jump from a tower. Media reports said on January 18, workers harnessed the 150-kilogram pig to a bungee cord and pushed it from a 68-meter-tall tower. A crowd of people collected below and laughed as the helpless pig dangled in the air, read reports. Workers at the scenic area in Fuling District told media that they were testing the bungee equipment for human use. Netizens accused them of animal abuse. “Pigs can be food, but never toys,” a Sina Weibo user wrote. The scenic area has since issued a public apology and sent the pig to a slaughterhouse.
