A Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province court issued the province’s first protective order to a man against his wife on November 24. The man surnamed Wu told the court that he had moved out over frequent quarrels with his wife, surnamed Lin, but Lin still would come over to abuse him. Wu said she once even hired a gang of men to assault him. He later sought refuge at his parents’ home, only for Lin to come and smash his parents’ furniture with a sledgehammer. Netizens have praised the court for its equal treatment of men and women. But some others said that in many cases of domestic violence, women do not dare speak out or seek protection from the law.
