The China Family Planning Association (CFPA) published its latest survey report on graduates’ sexual and reproductive health on September 26, World Contraception Day, calling for a more thorough sexual education among Chinese students.

The call was based on the CFPA’s own survey covering over 3,600 college students, which showed that 20.3 percent of the respondents have had sexual experiences, 45.6 percent of whom had their first sexual experiences between the ages of 11 and 18.
Among the women surveyed, 10.1 percent claimed that they had been pregnant, while 9.9 percent of all respondents admitted that they or their girlfriends had had abortions.
Only 54 percent of respondents, however, said that they had ever received sex education at school, leading experts to warn that students’ increasingly open attitude towards sex needs guidance in the form of proper sex education in which families, schools and communities should all play a major role.
